Search York County Prison Inmates

York County Prison is the main county jail for York County, Pennsylvania, and it serves people at several points in the local criminal case process. Families, attorneys, and records users often need to look up inmates at York County Prison, confirm whether a person is still in county custody, and understand which jail rules apply before visiting or sending mail. The facility is different from state prison, federal custody, and short-term arrest processing, so the right search path depends on the person's case status and custody level.

York County Prison Overview

York County's official prison page describes York County Prison as the local facility for pretrial detainees awaiting trial and people sentenced by the York County Court of Common Pleas. The prison operates under county authority with public oversight by the York County Prison Board. Board membership includes the county commissioners, sheriff, controller, district attorney, and a Court of Common Pleas judge, which matters because this is not a sheriff-run lockup with a simple online roster page.

The prison is the central detention facility for York County, PA. Research found no current Pennsylvania DOC state prison, BOP federal prison, or ICE detention center inside York County. A person held here is usually in county custody, not state DOC custody, unless a transfer has already occurred. York County Prison also shares the Concord Road complex with the Work Release Center and Central Processing, but each function has a different role in arrest intake, sentenced custody, and reentry.

The official York County Prison page is the source for the facility's mission, custody type, and prison links.

The county page is useful for official links, but it does not provide a browsable public roster in the research materials reviewed.

York County Prison Capacity

York County publishes a maximum capacity of 2,400 beds for York County Prison. The same county materials list a separate 276-bed Work Release Center. The 2025 PREA year-end report repeats the main prison capacity and work-release bed count, while the 2023 PREA audit says the prison housed male, female, and youthful offender populations across 55 housing units. Those figures show why a York County Prison inmate lookup can involve several custody statuses, not one narrow booking category.

Recent Prison Board minutes in the research file show average daily population far below the architectural maximum. June 2025 minutes reported a 2025 year-to-date average daily population of 1,024, a June monthly average of 978, and high and low days of 993 and 962. October 2025 minutes reported a year-to-date average of 1,005 and a monthly average of 974, with 851 male and 123 female average daily population. Capacity and daily population are different measures, because classification, staffing, medical needs, segregation, and gender separation can affect usable housing.

York County Prison Lookup

Research did not locate an official, browsable York County Prison public inmate roster or booking-photo gallery on the county website. That finding changes the search process. Use Pennsylvania VINE for custody status and release notifications, then use prison records or phone contact when VINE does not answer the question. For court charges, use Pennsylvania UJS Case Search. For booking records not published online, York County points users to the county's Right-to-Know request process and Open Records Center.

  1. Start with Pennsylvania VINE for current custody status and release alerts linked from York County prison resources.
  2. Call the appropriate county route when recent booking, housing, or visit eligibility is unclear.
  3. Check UJS Case Search for docketed charges, bail entries, court dates, and case status.
  4. Use the Pennsylvania DOC locator only after a state-sentenced transfer, because DOC says county-facility inmates are excluded.
  5. Use BOP or ICE locator tools only when federal or immigration custody applies.

The York County, Pa Sheriff App is also relevant. Apple and Google store listings advertise inmate search among app features, but live app result fields were not inspected in the research environment. Treat the app as an extra York County Prison inmate search channel, then verify important custody facts through VINE, prison records, UJS, or the official county office that holds the record.

York County Prison Contact

Use the Concord Road address for the prison, but pay attention to which office or door is involved. Central Processing is attached to the prison at Suite 102 and has its own sheriff-side entry instructions for some services. The research materials do not publish a separate prison general contact number on the prison page, but they do identify 717-840-7580 in the facility map and Central Processing numbers for front-end arrest and warrant processing questions.

York County Prison Visits

York County Prison visitation is scheduled through ViaPath/GTL, and visitors must be preapproved on the active visiting list supplied by the inmate or resident. Visits may be scheduled seven days in advance, but no later than 24 hours before the planned visit. The county rules also say people and belongings entering prison grounds or buildings are subject to search and metal detectors. Handbags, backpacks, suitcases, cameras, electronic devices, and similar items are not allowed without prior approval.

The official York County visitation page publishes the schedule and visitor rules for general population, children, juveniles, segregation classifications, work release, professionals, and video visits.

York County Prison Booking

The local intake path usually starts at York County Central Processing, not at a public roster screen. Central Processing receives people charged with criminal offenses, summary warrants, Court of Common Pleas bench warrants, Magisterial District Judge criminal warrants, Protection From Abuse violations, and probation or parole violations. If bail is not posted or a hold prevents release, the person is committed to York County Prison. Jail intake then can include property inventory, health screening, classification, housing assignment, rules orientation, and communication setup.

Property rules are especially local. Central Processing says York County Prison will not accept bookbags, oversized purses, luggage, bikes, and similar property. Central Processing may hold those items up to 30 days. A person in York County Prison can send a signed letter extending the hold or authorizing release to a named person. A person still held at Central Processing can sign a release form, and the person picking up property must bring government-issued photo ID.

York County Prison Programs

York County Prison's mission statement connects security with education and evidence-based treatment programs aimed at reentry. The clearest current program path is work release, which lets approved sentenced inmates keep employment while serving a sentence. Published program material also describes adult education, high school programming for inmates under 21 who lack a diploma, English as a second language classes, and vocational HVAC training when available and approved.

PREA materials add another records point. York County publishes PREA reports, and the 2025 year-end report says the March 2023 compliance audit found 2 standards exceeded, 43 met, and 0 not met. The audit materials discuss prevention, detection, response, investigations, York Hospital SANE access, YWCA victim advocacy, grievance reporting, hotline or address reporting, and Pennsylvania State Police criminal-abuse investigative responsibility.

Note: Confirm custody, housing, and visit eligibility with York County Prison before traveling or sending funds.
